An understanding on the concept of gastric emptying time

Tuesday, March 31, 2009
In these recent times, we have heard too many times about the gastric emptying time, you might have heard in the fitness camps. In the fitness camps it is important to note that they might have spaced out your meals ever four to five hours, this is because of the concept of the gastric emptying time, this is the time which the stomach takes for processing the contents of your stomach. Usually for many people the processing time for carbohydrates is 45 minutes, while the processing time for proteins is 2 hours and as far as the fats are concerned it almost takes 4 hours to digest the fats. This does not connote that you take lots of fat in the morning and feel full the rest of the day but it is important to note that you take a proper blend of all the three. What you need to follow is take proteins and carbohydrates with some amount of fat and it will take a longer time for stomach processing thus ensuring that you feel full for a longer period of time. Thus it is important that you have a blend of the three with fats in lesser proportion to the other two components.
