The general advice given by doctors is to cut down on calories, eat a balanced diet and remain physically active everyday. A person's weight depends on factors such as: the food, the quantity of food, age and health of the individual, the physiological and genetic makeup of the person etc.

Calorie DietWhile choosing a weight loss program you should know about what foods you can eat, how much calories it will contain and how much physical activity will be available. Do not choose a program which does not have a change in the foods that are generally eaten by the person and when there is not increase in physical activity.

2. Diet that is high in protein - This plan means that one should consume more proteins and less of carbohydrates. Carbohydrates may make a person gain fat. If consumption of carbohydrates is reduced, then it will result in weight loss. It is a good method to loose fat in a short span of time, but not effective in the long run.
3. Fixed Menu diet - In this diet the menu is already fixed and you know the calories that are consumed. This type of program is easy to follow.

Whichever program you choose, you should keep in mind that the food should be healthy and that you should exercise regularly. The diet should have proteins, vitamins and minerals. It should be low in calories. This type of diet will help in preventing heart ailments, diabetes and gall bladder diseases. It should easy to adopt even after the program is over. It should help you in changing your lifestyle, so that you can follow the plan all your life. If the program that you choose follows these guidelines, you can definitely choose it and loose weight.
