There are many weight loss programs that are available in the market. One should choose judiciously to ensure that the weight that is lost is permanent and not a temporary feature. A balanced diet with regular exercise is the key to loosing weight.

The first thing that should be done is to check with the doctor before starting any weight loss program. The general advice given by doctors is to cut down on calories, eat a balanced diet and remain physically active everyday. A person's weight depends on factors such as: the food, the quantity of food, age and health of the individual, the physiological and genetic makeup of the person etc.

Calorie DietWhile choosing a weight loss program you should know about what foods you can eat, how much calories it will contain and how much physical activity will be available. Do not choose a program which does not have a change in the foods that are generally eaten by the person and when there is not increase in physical activity.

The Dietary Guidelines for Americans includes eating five servings of fresh vegetables and fruits, consuming grains, having lean meat and using low fat or fat free diary products. This will lead to sensible eating habits.

The information you need to have about the weight loss program are:

  • Whether the staff members have the right training, experience and credentials,
  • Whether information is provided about the risks involved in using the products and the services of the program,
  • The cost of the program,
  • How many people who enrolled really completed the program?
  • How much weight was lost?
  • Were they successful in keeping off the weight for a year or longer?
You should be able to change your lifestyle and find out the factors that led to weight gain and incorporate changes in diet and exercise to improve the quality of life. This will improve your self esteem. You should also be aware of the health risks involved in weight loss.

Some people like to loose weight alone, while others function better in a group. Whichever method you choose you should loose weight gradually and keep it off permanently. This will be the best managing you weight.

Some of the weight loss programs deal with loosing weight while avoiding certain type of food products.

If consumption of carbohydrates is reduced, then it will result in weight loss. It is a good method to loose fat in a short span of time, but not effective in the long run.

Weight loss in healthy manner

Monday, May 18, 2009
Healthy WeightlossFor all the people, who are determined to lose weight it is important to understand the difference between weight loss and fat loss. Everyone can lose weight very easily, but what people need to lose is fat rather than weight. Weight loss in a healthy manner is important rather than mere weight loss. Mere weight loss is easily possible with little food consumption almost equivalent to bird size and I bet you'll be satisfied with the bathroom weight scales but what majority of people claim to achieve is fat loss. Sudden changes in your body measurements can lower your metabolic functioning thus reducing your physical functioning.

WeightLoss Chart
On the other hand a successful fat loss program will cater to the need of fat reduction without reducing your efficiency in physical functioning. Weight loss and fat loss should be done in such a way that it does not act as an obstacle in the general physical functioning in your daily routine, ensure that you remain equally active as you were earlier. There is no rule of thumb that after weight loss your activeness should decline further it should increase more; because I personally have noticed slim people to be more active than healthier one's. When you are taking up fitness camps, it is important that you do not prefer any diet that emphasizes on cut in carbohydrates because carbs are energy providers and if your body does not have adequate energy then it will resort to muscle protein which is not good. So, it is important that you consider all these aspects before selecting a fitness camp because for a better future mere weight loss is not essential but weight loss in a healthier manner is preferred and important.

Concept of Stomach emptying time

Monday, May 4, 2009
These days fitness spa's, Fit Camps and weight loss spas are emphasizing too much on the concept of gastric emptying time. They are also speaking about the fact that the food has to be consumed every three to four hours each for effective weight loss. Gastric emptying time is nothing but time taken by the stomach to process the contents of the stomach. A major chunk of people take almost 45 minutes to process carbohydrates, 2 hours for protein processing and 4 hours to process fats in their stomach. This does not indicate that you need to consume fats in the morning so as to stay full for the rest of the day, but do remember the fact that the intake should be in such a way that there should be a blend of all the three. The main function of carbohydrates is to give energy, provision of proper body building blocks for the growth and muscles of the other tissues of the body, this is one of the facts emphasized in the weight loss retreat.

The way in which the body works is that when you eat some amount of carbohydrates, proteins along with some amount of fats then the body takes too much time to process and you will feel less hungry. The main reason for spacing the meals is that after the stomach gets vacated, it is important to remember that the stomach needs to be filled up again. As it gets filled up it can gain start the processing of energy and the nutrient better with ease. It is important to remember the fact that the stomach can process only when there is medium amount of food rather than too much of food. Incase there is too much of food then the excess will be stored as fat.
